As
Lutherans we believe that we can’t do anything to earn salvation.
That’s why God has sent Jesus to us. Since we love God we want to take
care of our neighbors, especially of those who are in need.
The
Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church make comforts that are
distributed to the Youth Service Bureau, the Homeless Shelter and to
others who need help.
Some of our members work as volunteers for the food panty in Portland.
Every
year since 2003 we have organized a chicken dinner to raise money for
world and local hunger. Church members sell tickets for the meal for
the drive-thru pickup at our church. Normally we prepare 500 plates and
carry them to the waiting diners.
Our
congregation supports many local groups that try to help people in
need. Through our denomination, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in
America, we also support hospitals, colleges, schools, missionaries,
and vital work all over the country and around the world.
